Where are they located ?
The Baka Tribes are located in four different places. These places are the rainforests in Cameroon, northern Republis of Congo, Northern Gabon and Southwestern Central African Republic.
What makes them so special ?
They are special and different from other tribes because they use plants from all around the rainforest to treat illnesses, but unfortunately they can't cure every single illness only certain ones. Also they can do polyphonic singing, which is really hard to do. Polyphonic singing is when you sing two notes at the same time. You have to be very skilled to do it.
What are their customs, religion and language ?
They speak three languages:
French,
Baka &
Koozime.
They are animsts. Animism is a religion when people worship a forest spirit called Jengi or Djengi. They think of Jengi/Djengi as their guardian. They think that there are souls and spirits in humans, animals and plants.
What do they do in their typical day ?
The woman of the Baka Tribes go fishing and pick vegetables and if they have babies they have to take them with them. So while they are catching fish and picking vegetables they have to carry their babies on their back bacause there is no one else to look after them. While the woman are picking vegetables and fishing the men go to hunt.
What challenges do these people face ?
These people face many challenges because they are living in the rainforest, in the outside, and that is very tough but they do their best. They face becoming extinct because if we keep chopping the trees down they will have no where to stay and neither will the animals so they would be driven aways, so the Baka tribes would have nothing to eat aswell. Even though they can cure some illnesses they can't cure all, such as malnutrition.
Why should we protect these people ?
We should help these people, not only because it is kind, but also because if we were in trouble we would want people to help us. Also if we have helped them and, somehow, in the future they are able to help us they would because we helped them.
